It appears that James had two children by his first wife Mary and then moved across the state line to Bertie County, {Later Northampton County 1742} , North Carolina where he married his second wife Martha and had five more children. He amassed a large plantation there on Potecasi Creek bordered by Uraha swamp. The earliest land deed records I have found date from 1741 through 1745 where he bought several parcels of land (335 acres) all adjoining each other.
